The Temperance S. Alston DAR Chapter has asked the Sandhills SAR Chapter to become a Co-Sponsor for the Wreaths Across America program here in Moore County.

Wreaths Across America –  The Story

Wreaths Across America was founded by Morrill Worcester of Harrington, Maine. When he was a 12 year old paperboy, he won a trip to Washington, DC. While visiting Washington, he visited Arlington National Cemetery which made an indelible impression on him for the rest of his life.

During his life we founded the Worcester Wreath Company in Maine. In 1992, his company found itself with a surplus of Wreaths toward the end of the holiday season. Remembering his boyhood visit to Arlington Cemetery, the surplus provided him an opportunity to Honor Our Veterans. With help from a Maine Senator, arrangements were made for the placement of  memorial wreaths on the gravesites of fallen soldiers at Arlington Cemetery. As plans were put underway to recognize our fallen heroes, many companies and Veteran Organizations volunteered to decorate and place wreaths during the Christmas Season.

Our Goal is to obtain enough sponsors to place a Christmas Wreath on Every Gravesite at the Pinelawn Park Cemetery on Morganton Rd, Southern Pines.

These wreaths are placed on the graves of our departed Veterans and ensure that we Will Never Forget their Service to Our Country.

Each wreath donated costs $15.00. Our Sandhills Chapter will receive $5.00  to dedicate to our chapter Public Service & Heroism Recognition, Veterans Programs, and other Patriotic Programs.

The wreath purchase process is very simple. If you print  the attached Flyer or scan the QR Code image on the lower part of the attached Flyer with your phone camera, it will take you directly to the Wreaths Across America ordering screen. There are a number of options for ordering. After ordering the quantity you wish to donate, you can then enter your charge card information for payment.

Let’s work together to achieve our goal to place a memorial wreath on every veteran’s Grave site.

As we get closer to the date for placing the wreaths on the veteran gravesites, I will ask for volunteers to help honor our Veterans. But first we need the wreaths.

Thank You and I hope that you all have a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving with your loved ones.

Fraternally Yours,

Bruce Fensley- Sandhills SAR Chapter – President
